Visual planner comparison Updated June 2026

The Tiimo alternative built for women with ADHD.

Tiimo is a beautiful visual planner. But if you've used it and felt like something was still missing during certain weeks of the month — there's a reason. Here's what Tiimo does well, and where Lunar picks up.

The short version

Tiimo helps you structure your day visually. Lunar helps you pick the right tasks for the day you're actually having. They solve different problems. If your week-to-week energy is steady, Tiimo is great. If it isn't — especially if you have ADHD and a menstrual cycle — Lunar is built for that specifically.

What Tiimo does well

  • Visual time-blocking. Tasks become coloured blocks on a timeline. Great for people who think in pictures.
  • Neurodivergent-first design. Tiimo is explicit about being built for ADHD and autistic users, and it shows in the interface.
  • Cross-platform. iOS, Android, web, watch. Solid sync across everything.
  • Visual countdown timers. Genuinely useful for time-blindness.

Where Tiimo stops

Tiimo assumes your brain runs on the same energy curve every day. For women with ADHD, that's not how it works. Three specific gaps:

  • No cycle awareness. Your dopamine drops with estrogen during the luteal phase and period. Tiimo can't see that. The same Tuesday at 10am means something very different in week 2 vs week 4.
  • No energy-based filtering. You still have to look at the whole day and decide what to do. On low-energy days, that decision itself is the bottleneck.
  • Time-based, not capacity-based. Knowing a task takes 30 minutes doesn't help if you don't have 30 minutes of focus in you today.

Why Lunar exists

Every existing ADHD app treats "Tuesday" as one thing. For a woman with ADHD, Tuesday in week 2 and Tuesday in week 4 are different operating systems. Lunar is the first ADHD planner that asks two questions before showing you a task list:

  • Where are you in your cycle? Period, follicular, ovulation, or luteal.
  • What's your energy right now? Exhausted, low, okay, or high.

Then it filters your list down to only what your brain can plausibly do today. On a luteal-phase exhausted day you might see 2 tiny tasks. On a follicular-phase high-energy morning, you see the heavy lift you've been putting off. No streaks to break. No carryover guilt.

The hormone–ADHD connection Tiimo doesn't see

ADHD is a dopamine disorder. Estrogen supports dopamine production. When estrogen drops — in the late luteal phase and during your period — dopamine drops with it. For women without ADHD, this is a minor dip. For women with ADHD, it can feel like your medication stopped working, your motivation disappeared, and your brain turned to static.

This happens on a predictable schedule, every single cycle. But no amount of beautiful visual time-blocking helps you when you're in that dip, looking at your schedule, and simply cannot start any of it. Tiimo gives you structure. Lunar gives you a task list that adapts to the week your brain is actually having.

What a real week looks like

Day 14, ovulation — both apps. You're sharp. You open Tiimo, you look at your beautifully blocked day, and you actually execute it. You open Lunar, it surfaces your three high-energy tasks, and you knock them out. Both tools work here. This is the easy week.

Day 22, late luteal — the difference shows. You open Tiimo. Same schedule, same colours. But your brain looks at it and refuses. You know what you're supposed to do. You just can't start. You close the app and spiral. You open Lunar. It asks your energy level. You tap "exhausted." Your task list collapses from 18 items to 3: reply to one email, take a shower, eat something warm. You do two of them. That's enough for today. No streak to break. No carryover guilt.

The difference isn't which app has better features. It's which app gives you permission to have a different day.

Common questions

Can I use Tiimo and Lunar together?

Yes, and some users do. Tiimo handles visual scheduling for steady weeks; Lunar handles energy-based filtering for the weeks when the schedule stops working. If you need both layers, there's no conflict. That said, most users find they stop using Tiimo once Lunar becomes the habit — the capacity-first approach makes time-blocking feel less necessary.

Does Lunar replace a planner entirely?

For most users, yes. Lunar handles task capture, priority, energy matching, and cycle-phase context. It doesn't do visual time-blocking (Tiimo's strength) but for ADHD users, the task-selection problem is usually bigger than the scheduling problem. Once you know which 2–3 tasks you can actually do today, you don't need to block them into a timeline.

Does Lunar work if my cycle is irregular?

Yes. You log your phase at check-in — Lunar doesn't require period-tracking precision. If you know you're in a low week, you just select "luteal" or "period" and the filter adjusts. The energy-level filter works completely independently of cycle phase, so even if you skip the cycle input on days you're unsure, the energy matching still works.

If you came from Tiimo

You're probably already doing the hard work — visually mapping your day, fighting time-blindness, trying to make the system fit your brain. Lunar isn't a replacement for that kind of discipline. It's the layer underneath: deciding which tasks even belong on the visual map today, given where you are in your cycle and what your brain actually has to give.

Most Tiimo users who switch to Lunar say the same thing: they thought the problem was their scheduling. It was actually their task selection. When the list adapts to the day instead of the day adapting to the list, everything gets easier.

Try it free for a cycle. If you don't feel the difference within a luteal week, you don't need it.
